    From our Rector

    Christ the King

    FR TOM RENSHAW SJ, RECTOR

As we come to the final weekend of the Church’s liturgical year, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, Jesus as King of the Universe. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to mark the 1600th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council held at Nicea in 325 CE. The Council of Nicea engaged with the question of who Jesus is and what is the nature of his relationship to God the Father.

At the heart of the debate was the Arian controversy. Arius, a priest from Alexandria, was teaching that Jesus was not fully divine, but rather, he was merely the first among God’s creatures. Saint Athanasius responded to Arius stating that Jesus was "homoousios” , that is, of the same being or consubstantial with the Father. The Bishops gathered at Nicea rejected Arius’ teaching as heresy and Jesus’ divine status was affirmed. This continues to be proclaimed around the world each Sunday through the Creed.

Next week from 27-30 November, Pope Leo XIV will visit Turkey to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea. There will be joint ceremonies with Bartholomew I, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and one of Eastern Orthodox Christianity’s chief spiritual leaders. The theme of the meeting will be “One Lord, one faith, one baptism”, recognising the common belief that all Christian Churches share regarding the divinity of Jesus flowing from the teaching of the Council of Nicea in 325.

While we celebrate Jesus as universal King this weekend, the notion of kingship is one that does not sit easily within our Australian context. While King Charles III is the constitutional monarch of our country represented by the Governor General federally and Governors on a state level, we do not have a lived experience of a King or Queen resident in our country ruling and guiding us. As a consequence, the notion of Kingship is not one that I, and I suspect others, readily think about. We have experience of people who govern us, but this does not result in a deepening of our understanding of Kingship.

While Jesus as King may not be the most accessible image of Jesus, it is important that we seek to continually deepen our relationship with Jesus. A few weeks ago, there was a 10 day meeting of all the Jesuit Major Superiors (Provincials) with Fr Arturo Sosa, the Superior General in Rome. As part of this meeting, Pope Leo XIV addressed the Jesuit leaders gathered and said the following,

Communicate the joy of the Gospel with humility and conviction. Remain contemplatives in action, rooted in daily intimacy with Christ, for only those close to him can lead others to him.

This is the call of each and every disciple of Jesus. The more we come to know Jesus, the more joy-filled and hope-filled we become. As we approach the conclusion of the Church’s liturgical year and with the promise of Advent just around the corner, I invite each of us to consider how we might best prepare for the celebration of Christmas, the welcoming of Jesus, the Christ-child, of God coming to live as one of us.

    Wishing you all every blessing.

    Developing Men for Others

    MR MARK TANNOCK, PRINCIPAL

The middle years of adolescence are a self-evidently transformative time for a boy as he becomes a young man. Often a time of awkwardness and challenge, boys of this age look for opportunities that provide signposts to manhood - experiences through which their successful navigation provides evidence of their growth and maturation. Boys of this age also look to male exemplars who give witness to a positive manhood. Men who demonstrate what it is to be emotionally mature, heroic and loving in their relationships. Boys most often find this in their fathers, but other male figures can also provide this witness. Men should always be aware of the young, impressionable eyes who are watching them.

Through history, human societies have generated rituals and experiences that provide these opportunities for boys as they become men. Ancient indigenous customs that are still followed in Australia are a sacred local example. For other societies in the west, these ‘rites of passage’ slowly dissipated as religious observance also declined. Religions (including our own Catholic faith) have their own customs that are not practised by secularists. The unintended consequence of the erosion of these cultural practices, is that at times boys seek their own experiences to prove their emerging manhood. These can be dangerous and self-destructive if not guided by elders with love and wisdom.

Schools in Australia and overseas have responded to the need for these rites of passage for boys in a variety of ways. Most famously, some schools offer the experience of a remote, residential campus with Geelong Grammar’s Timbertop campus in Victoria the most well-known example. King Charles III was the beneficiary of this experience when a teenager.

Riverview’s response in recent years has been the Year 9 Challenge which is currently concluding its second week with one more to go. The Program is an intentionally designed series of experiences that put boys to the test and teach them skills and dispositions that will be of benefit as they become men. The program includes domestic skills (I’ve been assisting in teaching the boys the finer points of using a BBQ), service to the marginalised, and a week of camping in the bush. The program has been superbly coordinated by Ms Vanessa Blake, and our teachers have been generously supporting all Year 9 students through the program.

The Year 9 Challenge has also been carefully designed to be demonstrably Ignatian in character and aligns well with our Jesuit tradition and our patron saint’s call for us to find God in all things. Indeed, although much older when he undertook his radical conversion to Christ, Ignatius’ story is also one of transformation. From a life of vacuous vanity, he discovered God’s call for him to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and, in doing so, taught a spirituality that liberates us from worldliness.

For boys to become men, these experiences are essential. Most often, middle adolescents want to be a man, they just don’t quite know how to - yet. Boys are by their nature, heroic and oriented to the good. They need experiences that demonstrate to themselves and to others that they have what it takes to be a good man. A man for others. In the coming years we will explore new ways we can deepen the opportunities for our boys to become good Ignatian men.

    P&F Update – Term 4 Week 6

MRS LEESA FEILEN, P&F PRESIDENT 2025

As we come to the close of another remarkable year in the life of our College, we reflect with enormous gratitude on all that has unfolded within our community in 2025.

We offer our deepest thanks to the outgoing Committee members who have completed their tenure, Michelle Abbey, Fiona Bassingthwaighte, Sophie Bowrey, Jen Davis, Ilona Johnson, Caroline Doran, Liz Hannan, Tony Nolan, Anna Pleadin, Caroline Purtell, Nick Ridgewell, and Virginia Timmins.

Their commitment has helped shape the warm, vibrant parent community we are so proud of. Their service has strengthened our Riverview community and supported moments of connection, celebration and care. From events and gatherings to quiet acts of support, their leadership has modelled the heart of our Ignatian tradition: service to others.

We warmly welcome the incoming P&F Committee for 2026, under the leadership of Claudia McInerney. We look forward with hope, confidence and gratitude as they step into their roles, bringing enthusiasm, fresh ideas and a shared desire to continue building a community of belonging for all families.

The handover of a P&F Committee is more than a change of names, it is the passing on of a spirit of generosity, collaboration and friendship.

Thank you to every parent who has contributed this year. In 2025 your time and energy had made an enormous difference in the life of the College and in the lives of our boys.

An Irish Blessing - “May the dream you hold dearest be those which come true; the kindness you spread, keep returning to you".

    P&F Annual General Meeting

Last night the P&F held their Annual General Meeting in the Wingaru Building. We thank Mr Tannock, Fr Tom and the Advancement Team led by Phoebe Loneragan for supporting the executive committee and all attendees. Greg McKay, our outgoing Chair of the Council, provided a comprehensive overview of the strategic direction of the College.

The meeting brought together representatives from our year group coordinators, boarding community, staff and OUI. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on 2025 as a year of transition, excellent volunteer engagement and strong fundraising outcomes which enabled the P&F to announce their continued financial support for various capital works at the College and the Bursary Fund.

I humbly thank our P&F committee for their acknowledgement as my leave my post, to be succeeded by current Vice-President Claudia McInerney, who outlined the executive committee for next year and spoke with great positivity about the year ahead and the many ways in which the P&F will work with the College community.

    Student Leadership

A message from Theo Turner, Chisholm House Captain

It has been an eventful and uplifting week at the College, and with students achieving excellence across sport, the arts and academic life, there’s a lot to be discussed.

Going into the weekend, last Friday, students from all year groups sacrificed study periods and free time to share a meaningful moment of community and reflection at a student mass. The Dalton Chapel was filled with hymns, prayer, and a strong sense of unity, a reminder of the values that anchor boys amidst the busyness of the term.

The College also marked International Men’s Day with a morning tea that brought students and staff together to reflect on the importance of positive masculinity, respect, and wellbeing. It was a valuable opportunity for teachers and boys to hear messages about supporting one another, challenging stereotypes, and fostering healthy relationships.

Meanwhile, the Year 9 Challenge is well underway, pushing students beyond the classroom to develop resilience, collaboration, leadership, and, would you believe it, HOW TO SEW A BUTTON! Whether the boys are out kayaking, mountain biking, cooking for the homeless, or finding their way around Sydney’s public transport, they’re all stepping out of their comfort zone and giving it a crack.

Back here at the College, Year 12 students are beginning their first internal HSC assignments, signalling the first steps into their HSC journey. It’s a busy and often challenging period, but given the amount of “locked in” students staying back at the school library, I’m sure their determination won’t go unrewarded.

Creativity has been thriving here at the College. At the annual Slam Poetry Inter-House event, students were invited to express themselves through rhythm, performance, and storytelling. The live event, held at Thursday lunchtime with Mr Tannock and Fr Renshaw as the judges, was a highlight for spectators and an opportunity for students from all years to showcase their literary creativity. Moreover, a standout moment in the arts came with Regis in Concert, which showcased a variety of Co-Curricular Music, ranging from rock bands to piano solos. With over 500 spectators in the stands and over 240 students involved, the evening was a testament to the depth of musical talent at the College, ending with a vibrant performance of Coldplay's A Sky Full of Stars.

Regarding the sporting domain, our 1sts basketball team set the tone early with a dominant fifty-point victory over Scots College. The momentum continued on the athletics track, where the school’s 4x800m relay team – Lachie Maiers, Tom Poynton, Charlie Culbert and Matteo Shipman – claimed first place at the State Championships, a remarkable result that reflects their discipline and teamwork.

Finally, the Boarding community shared a light-hearted moment when the Garcia-Hennessy brothers – Liam and Henry – reeled in a sure-to-be school record fish, a catch that quickly became the talk of the students.

Overall, it’s been a week full of spirit, success and community across the College, so as we approach the backend of the term, let’s carry that momentum forward and finish the year with the same energy and purpose.

Well done to Leo on this outstanding achievement, and thank you to our dedicated Drama teachers for their support.

The Annual Year 8 Classics Camp

MS LOUELLA PERRETT, HEAD OF FACULTY - LANGUAGES

On Sunday 9 November, approximately one hundred students of Latin and Classical Greek from different schools gathered at Pymble Ladies’ College for the annual Year 8 Classics Camp. The ancient Romans built things to last, and this event certainly has longevity on its side as it has been run most successfully by the Classical Languages Teachers’ Association for over 48 years. The camp provides Classics students with the opportunity to meet and participate in entertaining yet constructive activities.

Workshops included mosaic making, badge making with Latin slogans and mottoes, the Ludi Campestres (mini Olympics), the Gladiatorial School of Capua and the James Adams Roman Army and Ancient Weapons Exhibit, considered by all as the highlight of the day. James Koch and Nicholas Hudson represented the College, participating enthusiastically in every event. Nicholas gave a splendid performance as the emperor presiding over the gladiatorial games, while James relished the task of rallying the competitors as he took on the role of lanista, the gladiatorial trainer. The boys behaved impeccably and were a credit to the College.

Fab Five – Round 5 vs. The Scots College

    MR TOM GARLEPP, BASKETBALL SPC

Riverview faced their basketball rivals, Scots, in a round packed with intensity, pride, and standout performances. From statement wins to clutch finishes, the program showed its trademark grit and unity. Here are the top five highlights from the weekend:

    1) 1st V – Statement Win in a Top-of-the-Table Clash (98–48)

In one of the most commanding performances of the season, the 1sts dismantled Scots in a high-stakes matchup, sending a clear message to the rest of the league. Every player contributed, with Riverview’s defensive discipline and offensive cohesion overwhelming the opposition. The effort and hunger from top to bottom were unmatched — a performance that showcased not just skill, but purpose. Lots of work and growth remain, but this was a fun match.

    2) 2nd V – Finding Their Identity (57–56 Win)

A thrilling one-point victory in a game that had everything. The 2nds jumped out to a 16-point lead behind Konrad “Baby Bertans” Svilans’ early dominance and maintained composure as Scots clawed back late. A massive clutch three from John “Downtown” Dynon and some big defensive efforts from Archer Wilson and Luke Sutherland in the final minutes sealed the deal. The 2nds are beginning to click as a unit, building chemistry and playing an exciting brand of basketball defined by toughness, pace, and belief.

    3) 16A – Locking Down and Leveling Up (48–28 Win)

Coach Jack Aman’s 16As moved to 5–0 with a statement win. After a sluggish first half, the boys flipped the switch, tightening their defence and executing their offensive sets with precision. Gabe “The General” Karam and Brooklyn “Clutch” Ippito continued to lead with composure, while the team’s help-side defence was textbook in the second half. Momentum is growing — and this group looks poised for something special.

    4) 15A – Clinical Execution and Team Control (46–24 Win)

The 15As continue to impress, executing their game plan to perfection. The boys rebounded hard, ran their offense with patience, and extended their lead with disciplined team play. By the second half, they were in full control, rotating through sets and refining their spacing and positioning. A polished, professional win that shows how dangerous this team can be when firing on all cylinders.

    5) 14A – Relentless and Ruthless (55–30 Win)

The 14As extended their unbeaten run with another dominant showing. Liam “Big Prayer” Amendolia controlled the glass, while the offense flowed beautifully through crisp passing and hard screening. Help defence shut down Scots’ bigs, and the transition game was electric. This is a squad with chemistry, hunger, and discipline — all the hallmarks of a champion team.

Round 5 was everything Riverview basketball stands for — defence, teamwork, and composure under pressure. With momentum building across the program, all teams will have a big and physical weekend ahead with Joey as is typical. Certainly, a fixture we all look forward to in any sport. Go View!

    Glenn King Cup 2025

    MR LIAM DONOHOE, DEBATING SPC

After a few years of dormancy, this term saw the debating program reintroduce the Glenn King Cup (GKC). Glenn King was a legendary debating and public speaking coordinator in the 2000s, whose contributions were so immense that an all school internal competition was posthumously named after him in the early 2010s. In 2022, however, our weekly internal competition morphed into the online SDC competition, featuring teams from schools across Sydney, and so the GKC had not been contested for some years.

In its new form, the GKC is a British Parliamentary (BP) competition involving students from years 7-12. British Parliamentary debating is unlike the usual 3 v 3 debating with which most Australians are familiar. Rather than two teams of three—an affirmative and negative—BP debating features four teams of two—an Opening Government, an Opening Opposition, a Closing Government, and a Closing Opposition. While the opening half of the debate is similar to Aus 3 v 3, the closing half is significantly different, with closing teams required to provide an “extension”, new analysis that does not contradict or refute their opening team, but either provides crucial reasoning that fills in gaps or an an entirely different argument that is more important than the opening’s argument. In addition, speakers can ask each other Points of Information, questions / rebuttals in the middle of speeches.

While less known in Australia, BP is a globally popular format. Indeed, it is the format of the World University Debating Championship, the pinnacle of global debating, and a competition several Old Ignatians have won.

While some of our students had prior experience with BP, the vast majority were learning the format for the first time, though you wouldn’t know it from the quality of their speeches and cases.

This year’s GKC was broken up into two competitions: Junior—featuring years 7 and 8—and Senior—featuring years 9, 10, and 11. Congratulations to all students for their diligence and the high standard to which they spoke.

We are pleased to specifically congratulate the following individual students and teams on their distinct success:

    Individuals
Best Year 7 Speaker: Archer Branson
Best Year 8 Speaker and overall best Junior speaker: James Koch
Best Year 9 Speaker - Toby Lau
Best Year 10 Speaker - Austin Clark
Best Yr 11 Speaker and Best overall Senior Speaker - Stephen Barchinski

    Teams
Best Year 7 Team: Kevin & Kevin (Dominic and Jock Kevin)
Best Year 8 team and 2025 Junior Glen King Cup champions: Carney & Koch (Will Carney and James Koch)
Best Year 9 Team: The Debataholics (Alexander Blayney and Xavier Chan)
Best Year 10 Team: Clark & Mills (Austin Clark and Lewis Mills)
Best Year 11 Team and 2025 Senior Glen King Cup champions: The congregation of bards in relation but not limited to the symphonic wind band (Caelan Cosgriff and Stephen Barchinski)

The GKC will return next year, and we encourage even more students to take part! Trials for 2026 teams will commence today and continue next week.

Junior top speakers: Jason Herrera-Hu, William Carney, and Jordan Herrera-Hu

Senior and Junior winners: The congregation of bards in relation but not limited to the symphonic wind band (Caelan Cosgriff and Stephen Barchinski) & Carney & Koch (Will Carney and James Koch)

    Summer Track and Field Update!

MS CATHY WALSH, TRACK AND FIELD SPC

The Riverview Summer Track & Field Program opened its season in record-breaking style, making history as the largest number of school relay teams ever assembled by a single school at the NSW State Relay Championships. Held over the weekend at Blacktown International Sports Park, Riverview proudly fielded an incredible 18 teams across all age groups from U14 through to U20 an extraordinary achievement, especially given the depth of competition from strong GPS, and public school programs.

The weekend kicked off on Friday night with a brilliant performance from the U20 4x1500m team. Charlie Culbert (Cheshire House), Xavier O’Hea (Ricci House), Thomas Poynton (Claver House), and Henry Stuart (Owen House) combined superbly to take the bronze medal and set the tone for what would become a memorable championship for the College (pictured in the banner image).

Charlie Culbert and Thomas Poynton were back in action on Saturday, joining Lachlan Maiers (Dalton House) and Matteo Shipman (Smith House) in the U20 4x800m relay. In one of the standout moments of the meet, the boys delivered a gutsy and perfectly paced run to claim gold upsetting powerhouse club favorites Randwick Botany and Ryde Athletics Club in a thrilling finish. Their determination and teamwork were on full display, earning well deserved cheers from teammates, coaches, and families watching on.

Across the entire weekend, Riverview athletes consistently stepped up, supported one another, and represented the College with pride. Beyond the medals, it was inspiring to witness individual growth, rising confidence, and the genuine excitement the boys brought to every race. Their willingness to put themselves on the line for their teammates and school was something truly special.

It is a privilege for our coaching staff to guide these young men through a major state championship, and on behalf of the College, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the boys for their commitment and effort. We also sincerely thank the parents for their support and for making the long journey out to Blacktown Sports Park, your presence makes all the difference.

With such a strong and historic start to the season, the future looks bright for Riverview Track & Field. Go View!

Hosting the MTB Round at Home!

    MR ABU HASSAN, MTB SPC

Saturday 15 November marked our turn to host the MTB round, making us only the second school alongside The King’s School to have the privilege of holding the event onsite. Our course has gained a reputation for being both iconic and a little controversial, with its predominantly grass surface providing a tough challenge that clearly separates the extremely fit from the not-so-fit riders.

This year, we continued to refine and enhance the course. We removed the long, uneventful tail section, creating a more compact and engaging layout. Additional barricades and taped-off sections ensured riders stayed on track with no opportunity for shortcuts. We also introduced a one-off sprint start featuring a sudden left-hand turn around a tree, injecting excitement and a touch of chaos into the opening seconds of the race.

Parents, students and SPC staff from The King’s School, Waverley College, Barker College, Knox Grammar School, St Augustine’s College and newcomers Chevalier College all enjoyed the challenge of the slopes. We were also delighted to welcome our Rector, Father Tom Renshaw SJ, who spent the morning cheering on riders and offering words of encouragement. The atmosphere was energetic, and while storm clouds threatened, the weather held out, giving us ideal overcast conditions. Spectators enjoyed coffee, drinks and cakes from the coffee van, while music from the lap-timing area set a lively tone.

A huge congratulations to our Riverview students, who produced outstanding results across all divisions.

A round of this scale would not be possible without the dedication and support of our exceptional coaching and operations team. A special thank you goes to Lachlan Ambrogio, who continually enhances the track layout each year and spends countless hours under the sun marking out the course with tape and bollards. Thank you also to Harry Spice for rider briefings and announcements, and to Jack Caine, Judah White, Matthew Mooney and Eoin McCarthy for their work as marshals.

We extend our gratitude to Taj from Green by Nature for supplying additional soil and preparing the track surface to a pristine, race-ready standard. Finally, sincere thanks to Blake Tuxford, Reece Duggans and Khalil for managing logistics, including bus parking, gate closures and traffic management—essential tasks that ensure the event runs safely and smoothly.

    An Update from Sailing

    MR MATTHEW BENTLEY, SPC SAILING

The Riverview Sailing team has been very busy over the last few weeks. Weekly interschool racing has continued with Rounds 3 and 4 of the five-round competition, and our Learn to Sail groups have been enjoying some exciting conditions back on the Lane Cove River. Competition has been tight against some of the best teams in the country, and our sailors have certainly risen to the challenge with strong performances in both rounds.

In Round 3 we welcomed the full complement of our 1st VI skippers. Healy returned from his international regatta schedule and enjoyed a change of pace, racing alongside his schoolmates on a sunny Sydney Harbour. In the first of our match-ups, the Riverview 1st VI defeated The Cranbrook School 2nd VI. This Cranbrook team placed 3rd at the 2025 Australian Championships in June, so being competitive against them—and ultimately beating them—was a very pleasing result. After winning the first race, we conceded the next to some clever strategy, before securing a dominant start in the final race and taking out the best-of-three challenge. With so many matches won or lost in the start sequence, Riverview has been working hard to improve in this critical phase of the course.

The Riverview 2nd VI then raced against Waverley’s 1st VI. Waverley are relatively inexperienced in this competition, and the Riverview flotilla made short work of the match in a decisive 3–0 result.

The 2nd VI continued their winning streak even after being promoted to Division 2 of the competition. Their first round at this higher level was against the Sydney Boys High School 1st VI. SBHS is an experienced team in the Teams Racing circuit, so it was a great testament to our sailors to see them compete so confidently and decisively against such quality opposition.

Round 4 coincided with the NSW State ILCA Championships. All three of our starting 1st VI skippers are serious contenders in the ILCA classes, and each of them returned with impressive results in both their age groups and overall. Riverview Sailing is very proud to support these athletes as they continue to advance their skills at major events. Congratulations and well done!

As a result of their ILCA commitments, the 1st VI Round 4 match-up with The Scots College 1st VI has been postponed to this weekend.

This weekend marks our final scheduled matches of the competition, with races against Cranbrook School’s 1st VI and The Scots College 2nd VI. The teams have been training and studying hard in preparation, and we wish them good luck and safe passage across to Woollahra on Saturday.

    Golf Report | 15th November

    MR MARTY COLLINS, GOLF SPC

Under threatening skies our boys took on the Scots College in their golf fixture last Saturday. With Scots marginally in front of them on the ladder we knew it was going to be a close contest. Warringah Golf Course was in great condition and the greens were true and fast.

Our No. 1 Josh M had to give his opponent 4 shots and was behind early in the match. Despite this, his constant clutch putting was unsettling and when a thunderstorm stopped play with a couple of holes to play he was 1 up and won the match.

Ben V, our captain, despite close matches, has found winning difficult. Not today. He got out of the blocks early, had 2 birdies in the first few holes and won the match 2 up. Teddy, also recorded his first win, with a very gutsy display. He had won on forfeit two weeks earlier. Hugo played the match with his partner in great spirit, and when the rain came he was 4 down. He had previously won his two matches.

The 3-1 victory was well deserved, and the boys are looking forward to building on this momentum next Saturday when they take on St Aloysius' College at North Ryde Golf Club.

    Boarding

From the Year 10 Boarding House

MS CHRISTINA MIKAN, YEAR 10 HEAD OF DIVISION

As Term 4 is moving along quickly, we take a moment to reflect on what has been an exciting and eventful year in the Year 10 Boarding Division. From the challenges tackled in academics to the friendships strengthened over shared experiences, this has been a year of growth, resilience, and achievement for our boarders.

Our Year 10s have shown growth in different areas such as academics where many of our boarders demonstrated exceptional commitment to their studies, achieving personal bests and making great strides in their subjects. In sport and co-curricular activities whether it was on the field, the stage, the pool or the Ag shows, our boarders showcased their talents and school spirit, representing us proudly in different school competitions and events.

Within the Division activities such as the pastoral program 'Magis Mindset', playing basketball, cricket, touch footy in the Gartlan, breakfast BBQs or making gifts such as bees wax candles, our students enthusiastically participated in making the boarding house a vibrant and inclusive place.

It has been a pleasure to observe the growth in maturity and the development of leadership qualities shown by some of the Year 10s. To our dedicated boarding staff, parents, and guardians, thank you for your support throughout the year. It all helps to make our boarding house feel like a home away from home.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a relaxing holiday.

    Junior Theatresports Success

MS LARA STERN, TEACHER - DRAMA

Our Junior Theatresports Team (Dean Criola, James Koch, Thomas Polin, Tom Shanahan and Tom Carseldine) delivered an unforgettable performance on Friday night at Sydney Girls’ High, showcasing the tremendous talent, energy and team work that has defined their season.

From bold and hilarious character work to exceptional listening and collaboration, the group displayed an impressive command of improvisation. Their final scene drew huge applause from the audience and highlighted the skill and creativity of this outstanding team earning them a perfect score of 5-5-5.

It has been a privilege coaching these students, alongside Mr Nick Heydon, Mrs Sally Wentriro and Ms Roseanne Di Losa. Each member of the team has grown enormously over the last two terms, and their dedication has been evident in every training session and performance.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the families, staff and students who attended and supported the team on the night. Your enthusiasm and encouragement mean so much to the students. We also acknowledge and thank our wonderful coaching team for their expertise, guidance and commitment to nurturing the students’ confidence and creativity.

While we did not progress to the Grand Final this year, the quality of the team’s work was exceptional, and the competition was of an extremely high standard. The students should feel incredibly proud of what they achieved.

We look forward to welcoming our young improvisers back to the stage in Term 1 for the Intermediate Theatresports Competition.

Congratulations to all involved on a truly brilliant season.

    Elective Drama Showcase

    MAX POWER, VICE DRAMA PREFECT

Earlier this week, student actors from Years 8 to 11 presented a selection of outstanding performances in the 2025 Elective Drama Showcase. Each piece featured had been identified as one of the strongest works from its respective year group’s assessment tasks, highlighting the depth of talent and dedication across all year levels. All the boys involved should be proud of their achievements, as their performances reflected not only their individual creativity and commitment, but also the collective strength and spirit of Drama at Riverview. The evening served as a celebration of student achievement in the performing arts and a testament to the vibrant creative energy within the College community.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks, on behalf of myself and all the Drama students, to our dedicated Drama teachers, Ms Arnott, Mr Page and Ms Stern. This evening stands as a testament to the passion, guidance and countless hours you have invested in us. I’d also like to extend our gratitude to those who helped "behind the scenes". Many thanks to Ms Hunt for working tirelessly to provide costumes, and to the students in View Crew ( Lighting : Calan McInney and Sound : Christian Bowe) for volunteering their time to work on lighting and sound.
